Customer Reviews of Some of Our Modifications

  • Feedback from one customer who had the Vacuum State Level 5 Mods, a laser replacement, plus our own special filter and grounding modifications performed on a Sony DVP-S9000ES DVD / SACD Player that had previous been upgraded by a colleague to VSE Level 4 status.

    • "Hi, Jim.. I am now a believer

I have been listening for a couple hours and while I have not listened to the old Level 4 for about a month or so, I am confident my observations are not based on "golden memories" but on what I distinctly remember were the strengths/liabilities of the Level 4 vs. Level 5 + your Breath of Life, as I hear things today.

      Brief Level 5 Observations -

Lower noise floor.. more natural presentation, detail, etc.
dedicated x-former.. bolder/bigger presentation, more dynamic, fuller sound from lower mid to upper bass
extremely clean.. I find good Red Book to be excellent in this regard.
listenability.. virtually no edge to the sound on what I have listened to so far hybrid discs.. nothing negative to report here. On an RCA SACD Beethoven Violin Concerto, the cue up took a little longer than normal but did read (relief!)

While my machine was with you, I listened to my TT 1-2 hours a day, and I was convinced the ultimate listening experience was with analog playback. After sampling the work you have done, I am not so sure the analog argument is so strong. I now find with the reduction (or elimination) of traditional digital artifacts in your machine, the silver disc is becoming my favorite media.

Great work and a sincere thank you!

      Regards,
      Bill"

  • Feedback from a customer who had the Vacuum State Level 5 Modifications installed inside of a stock Sony DVP-S9000ES DVD player, and subsequently had our-own special filter and grounding mods performed on this same player.

(Note: Prior to any of our work, this customer had some unresolved noise issues inside of his system. So after we had completed our modifications to his player, we visited his home, identified the sources of his problem, and implemented some quick and inexpensive fixes to his problems, simply as a courtesy to one of our good customers.)

    • "Hi Jim,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, just been extremely busy at work. First, the system sounds fabulous! It's hard to fathom, the impact that your grounding changes made to the level 5 upgrades on my 9000. It took the Allen Wright mod to a whole new level. Your changes made the sound so much more dynamic and involving. I am simply stunned by the sound of my red book CDs. I have now lost my motivation to play my records.

I also want to thank you for going above and beyond the call by coming over and troubleshooting my noise issues. Your doggedness in tracking down and solving the problem is much appreciated.

Thanks Jim, from a very satisfied customer. Esp"

  • Feedback from another customer who had the Vacuum State Level 5 Mods installed, had both the Sony laser and drawer mechanisms replaced, and also had our-own special filter and grounding modifications performed on a Sony DVP-S9000ES DVD / SACD Player. It is interesting to note that this player had been previously upgraded by our competitor ModWright, and then later to VSE Level 4 status by one of our colleagues; and yet this customer still believes that our mods represent such a significant sonic improvement over both of the prior configurations:

    • "Thank you, Jim.

The unit sounds wonderful...a musical treat.

Your efforts got rid of all the ground loop issues. Quiet as a mouse. It's working well mechanically. I've played 3 dual layer CD/SACDs and it easily reads the SACD layer.

I've now been able to listen to quite a few more SACDs and CDs. The machine with mods has pretty completely settled in and the sense of room space / aliveness is quite remarkable.

On SACD, where the masterings are good, it's a real pleasure to listen. If the masterings are a little hot or peaky, one really notices it...but there still is much less feeling of artificiality. It's more like the grace of an analog source...though not completely.

RBCDs have rather spectacular fidelity. By any personal "hearing" measure, presentation of recording fidelity is simply clearer and more transparent than any other red book digital source I've experienced.

The RBCD presentation is now very much better than before your work. BUT, the SACD presentation has achieved an even greater jump in performance. Listening to SACDs on this unit is just addictive. Quite wonderful!

      Regards,

      Bill"
